Welcome to Blue Sage College Preparatory Academy!
This site is an ongoing academic portfolio and student blog maintained by Kurstin Blue Hamilton and Sage Lennon Hamilton. We are a mother & son who have decided to unschool/homeschool in an effort to provide Sage the education he wants and deserves. Sage is Gifted & Talented, Twice-Exceptional , and an Aspie (Asperger’s kids refer to themselves as Aspies). He was attending a phenomenal charter school until they underwent drastic changes with the new administration. Sage entering 5th grade but is 3-5 grades ahead of his peers in all subjects, especially math and language arts, and would not be able to succeed in the new school format in which he would be shuffled between six teachers in 55 minute periods. Since I have been in education for over 18 years, both as an English teacher and as a educational leader, we felt that we were definitely up for the challenge of un/homeschooling. I have a B.A. in English Education, an M.A.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction, and a PhD ABD in Instructional Technology (I’ll finish that darn dissertation one day!). I know the importance of integrating technology into education, especially with children who are extremely tech-savvy, like Sage. Therefore, instead of keeping big binders full of his work, we decided to save some trees and keep his portfolio online. He will post his work, keep a dialectical reading journal, and maintain a personal blog on this site. I will maintain a blog about my adventures as a teacher turned un/homeschooler, our curriculum choices, information about children who are on the Autism spectrum, and document our journey from my perspective. We will also post pictures to create a virtual scrapbook of Sage’s learning journey each year.Thank you for stopping by! Here’s to a great first year!
Sage, have a wonderful, fun filled 5th grade!
