What I Learned Today 9/30/2014

Non-Fiction/Architecture/Design

Today, I read an article on Dornob, and it was about a home made inside of a hill. It was made by the two people who wanted to get the house made for them, and any passers who wanted to help. They conserved trees and only cut of the tops of trees around 1-foot in diameter to give support to the hill so it wouldn’t collapse. Now, they live in the house now.

Solar System Project

We finished our last layer of Papier mâché on the balloons and can start painting them when they are dry. I defined 13 words for my Cub Scout Astronomy pin. We are having a “Star Party' Friday after our den meeting at a park. We will look through a telescope and identify constellations.

Planet

Any of the eight large heavenly bodies revolving about the sun and shining by reflected light.

Star

Any of the heavenly bodies, except the moon, appearing as fixed luminous points in the sky at night.

Solar system

The sun together with all the planets and other bodies that revolve around it.

Galaxy

A large system of stars held together by mutual gravitation and isolated from similar systems by vast regions of space.

Milky Way

The spiral galaxy containing our solar system.

Black hole

A massive object formed from a gravitational collapse from a star blowing up as a supernova and has a super gravitational pull.

Red giant

A star intermediate stage evolution, characterized by a large volume low surface degrees, and reddish hue.

White dwarf

A star, near the size of earth, that has been through a gravitational collapse and is in the final stage of evolution.

Comet

A body moving about the sun, usually in a highly eccentric orbit, consisting of mass surrounded by an envelope of dust and gas that may form a tail that streams away from the sun.

Meteor

A meteoroid that has entered the earth’s atmosphere.

Moon

The natural satellite of the earth.

Asteroid

A small rocky body orbiting the sun

Universe

The whole world

Pre-Algebra: Negation

I worked on negative numbers. I learned that if you multiply a negative nmber with a positive number the product is negative. If you multiply a negative number with another negative number the product is positive.

Vocabulary

I completed Wordly Wise lesson 3.

Tomorrow I will show you all the real US Army camping gear I got from Poppa!!!
